Man swiftly arrested in city centre - knife recovered

A man was arrested within moments after officers responded to reports of a person carrying a knife in St Albans city centre around 12 midday on Friday (11 September).

PC Alex Manof was first on the scene after reports of a disturbance near the Saint and Sinner in St Peters Street. 

With assistance from colleagues from the Neighbourhood Policing Team, Response Team officers and St Albans CCTV operators, a 48-year-old man was quickly located and arrested on suspicion of possessing and threatening with a bladed article in a public place.

To ensure the safety of the public, officers and the man himself, a Taser was discharged during the incident.

A knife was recovered nearby.

He is on conditional bail pending further enquiries.  

Thanks to the quick actions of responding officers and the support of CCTV operators, the incident was brought under control swiftly, helping to keep the city centre safe.
